Tourists are being encouraged to explore Scotland’s islands with an 8,000 ferry ticket giveaway.

Successful entrants to the VisitScotland competition, open today, will receive a free return trip to one of 23 islands.

Last year, 63,000 people from the UK entered the Brilliant Island Moments draw, with the Isle of Arran the most popular destination.

Shetland was the winners’ second choice, followed by Lewis, Mull and Orkney.

The giveaway is part of a £1.4 million marketing campaign to encourage more domestic visitors to Scotland.

There will be one draw each week up until March 25, with 4,000 winners receiving one pair of foot passenger tickets for their chosen route.

VisitScotland chairman Mike Cantlay said: “After the huge success of Brilliant Island Moments last year, we’re delighted to once again team up with Caledonian MacBrayne and Serco NorthLink Ferries.

“From rugged mountainous geography to Caribbean-like white sand beaches, there are so many reasons to visit our islands.”
