Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has been overruled by his dog after telling his Twitter fans he would marry girlfriend Kim Sears after defending his title this year.

The Dunblane-born star, who has won two Grand Slam titles, claimed the wedding was being planned while taking part in a question and answer session with fans on Twitter.

Although he has long dodged questions about when he would marry his long-term partner, when asked when he was getting married, he responded: “We are getting married just after Wimbledon, should be a great day.”

It has been rumoured that the couple will tie the knot at Cromlix House, the hotel Murray purchased for £2 million in his hometown of Dunblane. His brother Jamie married Colombian girlfriend Alejandra Gutierrez there in 2010.

However, Murray is well known for having a dry sense of humour and it seems he was playing a joke on his followers.

In a bizarre twist, the @maggiemay_hem account supposedly the alter ego of Andy Murray’s dog posted: “NOBODY IS GETTING MARRIED”.

Murray himself then came clean, saying: “3 things.. I don’t smoke grass, I’m not getting married(yet) and I don’t want to kill rafael Nada.”

Whether Kim Sears will see the funny side of the Twitter frenzy remains to be seen…
