‘Blacklisting’ firms will be blocked from public sector works

Companies engaged in the blacklisting of employees will be excluded from public contracts in Scotland, according to new official guidance.
Firms will have to declare whether they breached relevant laws and prove they took remedial action before being allowed to bid again, the Scottish Government has decided.
Companies which fail to disclose the use of the practice can have their contracts ripped up.
The Scottish Trades Union Congress welcomed the approach, claiming it contrasts with the “wrong-headed” stance adopted by Conservatives in the British Government.
Compensation must also be paid in respect of any damage caused by wrongdoing, the guidance states.
