Police have found a body while searching for a man who got into difficulties in a river.

Police Scotland co-ordinated the hunt for the man, who was last seen in the River Findhorn, at an area known as Randolph’s Leap near Forres, Moray, an area known for its dramatic rocks, cliffs and waterfalls.

The man was reported to have got into difficulty in the water shortly after 4pm on Saturday.

A search-and-rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth, the coastguard, specialist police and members of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were all involved in the hunt.

Police Scotland confirmed a body had been found at the shore of Findhorn Bay on Sunday morning.

The family of missing man Matthew Crosbie have been informed.

Police have now issued a fresh warning about the dangers of swimming in or playing near to rivers.

Inspector Paul McCruden said : “I would like to remind the public of the significant dangers posed by rivers, especially in the aftermath of rainfall: the currents are very strong, unpredictable and the water is often very deep.

“It can also be deceptively cold and there may be objects under the water that are hazardous. You can get swept away very quickly.

“Our firm advice is do not be tempted regardless of how strong a swimmer you are. Do not jump in or swim.”
