A violent rapist is back behind bars after being caught with a £70,000 heroin haul.
The court heard that Harpal Singh Sehra returned to crime after struggling to live with being a sex offender.
Sehra ended up in debt as a result and agreed to ferry class A drugs in August.
The 32-year-old admitted at the High Court in Glasgow to being concerned in the supply of heroin.
Sehra made headlines in 2011 when he was jailed for four years for the brutal rape of a mum in her own home.
The case sparked fury after it emerged he struck less than two weeks after being given bail for an earlier attack on her.
Sehra, from Dunfermline, was jailed for three years and four months for this latest offence.
Sehra was caught with the drugs after being stopped by police on the A74 near Gretna on August 21.
He was driving a Vauxhall car in which a one-kilogramme package of heroin was discovered.
His lawyer told how Sehra had been acting as a courier and had been intending to drop off the drugs in Fife.
Krista Johnston, defending, told the court: “After his release from prison, he did find difficulty dealing with the stigma of his most recent conviction.
“He fell into debt and was then offered the opportunity to collect this parcel.”
Lord Boyd said the jail term would have been five years but for Sehra’s guilty plea.
The judge told Sehra: “The trading of class A drugs is evil and pernicious.”
Sehra already had three convictions for serious assault before raping a woman in 2011.
He pounced just 12 days after being granted bail on assault and abduction allegations against the same victim.
The then Fife Constabulary had been so concerned that it gave the woman a panic alarm but she was unable to use it when he arrived at her house and overpowered her.
A judge at the time described the rape as a “brutal attack” given the woman’s injuries.
