A university lecturer found dead at an Argyll beauty spot following a storm is believed to have been struck by lightning.
The body of Dr Tim Boyd (54) was found on a bridge close his home in Port Appin in North Argyll on Sunday by a local woman who was walking her dog.
Police told her they thought that Dr Boyd had been struck by lightning.
Appin residents reported seeing flashes of lightning on Sunday morning and hearing loud crashes of thunder “like an explosion”, during a hail shower.
Some houses had a brief power cut.
Alison Gourlay of Kirkton in Appin was walking her dog on the bridge at about 1.20pm when she found Dr Boyd’s body.
Mrs Gourlay was too upset to speak about what happened, but her husband, Cameron said: “She was taking the dog for a walk and she came across a body. She phoned the police and had to wait with the body until they came.
“There had been some big flashes of lightning. Police told her they thought he had been struck by lightning.”
Dr Boyd lived at Dallen’s Cottage in Appin with his wife Cat Newsheller and two daughters.
A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police confirmed last night that they were looking into the possibility he had been struck by lightning.
