Government offices are bracing themselves for a threatened shutdown on Thursday because of action by public sector workers. Transport and universities may also be affected.
The Public and Commercial Services Union, along with members of Unite, the Rail Maritime and Transport Union and the University and College Union will take part in a one-day national strike in response to austerity measures.
In Dundee the Department for Work and Pensions in Fintry, the HMRC in Sidlaw House and Greenmarket and job centres are set to be affected, as are similar offices in Tayside and Fife.
Employees in the RMT and UCU have said they will come out in support. A PCSU spokesman said that 2,000 workers could go on strike in the Dundee area.
They are protesting about paying more towards their pensions and working longer but receiving a lower return.
