SS Peter and Paul Football Club stalwart Terry Mitchell

A Dundee man who devoted much of his life to a city amateur football team has died suddenly at the age of 64.

Terry Mitchell began playing for SS Peter and Paul Football Club as a primary pupil and continued up through the ranks to play for their amateur team in his 20s.

Mr Mitchell became manager after retiring as a player, winning 25 trophies and setting a record which has never been beaten at the club.

In the late 1970s, Mr Mitchell became president of SS Peter and Paul and was at the helm for five years, remaining an active member of committee until he died on Sunday.

Born in 1946, he attended SS Peter & Paul RC Primary School and then St John’s Secondary School.

He met his future wife Sylvia while in his teens at Robbie’s dancehall in Hawkhill, and they married in 1964 at St Salvador’s Church.

Mr Mitchell, who worked as head porter at Strathmartine Hospital for 15 years, was also a huge Dundee FC fan and witnessed their league title win in 1962.

He also enjoyed playing summer golf and frequented Dundee and Dalfield Social Clubs with friends and family.

Mr Mitchell is survived by Sylvia, their three children Loretta (43), Lesley (45) and Terrence (40), six grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters.
