Coming up Courier Country Cup Final/ World of Pain

Coming up Courier Country Cup Final/ World of Pain

Tayside and the Scottish Cup don’t tend to mix very well.

Scottish football’s oldest trophy has been contested every year since 1874 and collectively, Dundee, St Johnstone, Dundee United and the Angus clubs have made 14 appearances.

Fair to say there has been little need for an open top bus manufacturer to cast its business eye over the region.

For United of course, hoodoo and heartbreak hardly covered their inability to win final after final until 1994. But at least they’ve been there and even won it again since.

St Johnstone, despite eight attempts, had never won a Scottish Cup semi.

While it would, therefore, be easy to bask in the celebratory glow from Tannadice and McDiarmid Park after they both clinched their places in the final at the weekend, Coming Up feels it is our duty to warn one of them is in for a world of pain come May. Just saying.

Of course, until that fateful day, The Courier will be following every step of the cup final journey with our local teams (let’s face it, most of the media lost interest the moment Stevie May’s second hit the back of the net.)

Just for the record, Dundee are top of the league and looking good for a return to the top flight. We’ve plenty of that too.

It’s not all about the fitba in Monday’s paper though.

The Commonwealth games looms large with only 100 days until the opening ceremony but it seems it won’t be going with quite the bang we had been promised.

Read about the explosive fall out from weekend decisions.

We also have a cracking tale from Perthshire where a certain special Lady has laid yet another egg. Is there no end to her reproductive prowess?

Chuck a bit of politics, showbiz and a fundraising dad in a pink tutu and we’ve got a winner for you.

You’ll be sick as a parrot if you miss it or try our digital edition to be truly over the moon.
