United call in supplies to meet cup final ticket demand

Dundee United director Derek Robertson has told The Courier of his delight at seeing the number of tickets sold for the Scottish Cup final surge past 20,000.

Demand to see the Tangerines take on Ross County at Hampden on May 15 is so high that the shop temporarily ran out of supplies on Thursday.

However, supporters who have still to make their purchases have been reassured that stocks will have been replenished by the time the doors open at 9am today.

Tickets went on sale to season ticket holders on Tuesday and the first day of general sale on Thursday saw no let-up in final fever.

Tannadice staff have been left exhausted but also exhilarated by the pace of it all.

“I was confident that we would sell over 20,000 tickets but I didn’t realise they would go within three days,” said Robertson.

“The response has been amazing and we are delighted.

“We have been trying our best to accommodate everyone but did run out of tickets for a while.

“I would stress, though, that we will have more delivered in time for opening tomorrow morning.

“I would ask everyone to be as patient as possible and make them aware that we are now struggling to find the exact seats people are asking for as our supply goes down.

“Our staff have been working so hard and I would like to thank them for the tremendous effort they have put in.”

It is now looking likely United will have to ask the SFA to open up another section to them, freeing up another 5000 or so tickets.

As well as calling at the club shop, tickets can bought via the 08444 155559 phone line which is open from 8am.
