Dundee’s squad reported back for work after their Christmas break with just a slight concern over injured duo Leigh Griffiths and Nicky Riley.

At a push, both men would have been considered fit enough to play had the Boxing Day match away to Queen of the South not been postponed.

However, Dark Blues boss Barry Smith will keep an eye on them ahead of Sunday’s home clash with Ross County.

“Nicky has a back problem and Sparky has a knock that he picked up against Stirling,” said Smith. “I am hopeful both will be OK for the weekend and they could have played down in Dumfries had the game been on but we will be monitoring them this week.”

Smith would rather his players had been facing the Doonhamers instead of being off but admitted the break was appreciated.

“It was nice to be able to give them unexpected time to spend with their families and enjoy themselves to a certain extent,” he said. “It was also good to see them get back here and work hard on the training pitch.”
