Arbroath FC v Clyde FC: Lichties looking to edge closer to title
ByNews reporter
Arbroath welcome Clyde to Gayfield tonight knowing a win would put them seven points clear at the top and within touching distance of the third division title.
The Lichties strolled past the west coast side 3-0 on Saturday, and boss Paul Sheerin is likely to name a broadly similar line-up for the second half of the double-header.
Should the Angus team manage to take all three points, it would be mathematically possible for them to lift the championship trophy at the weekend if other results go their way.
However, Sheerin is keen to keep focused on the task in hand and ensure there are no slip-ups in what promises to be a tricky run-in.
He said, “Potentially we could win the league on Saturday, but I very much doubt that all the results we need would go our way.
“It would be nice to get a repeat of the result that we got on Saturday, but I am always a bit wary of double headers.”
Ross Chisholm and Stuart Malcolm both miss out, but other than that the squad will be back to full strength.
After tonight, Arbroath’s remaining fixtures will see them take on Queen’s Park and Montrose at home, followed by an away outing to Annan then a match at Gayfield against Elgin.
