In-demand striker Rory McAllister has held talks with St Johnstone, Courier Sport understands.

The 24-year-old former Brechin City frontman has been the subject of much speculation during the close season with a number of SPL clubs being linked with the second division player of the year who scored 29 goals for the Glebe Park club last season.

The suitors have included Aberdeen, Hibs, Dunfermline and St Mirren, who dropped out of the running just last week when an offer made to McAllister was rejected.

It is believed that Hibs and Aberdeen are both still in the hunt, as well as an English Championship club.

Highland club Peterhead, who have received a recent cash injection, have also put a lucrative deal on the table which would enable him to complete his plumbing qualifications by staying part-time.

McAllister has indicated he would like to try his luck at full-time football again however, after failing to make his mark at both Aberdeen and Inverness Caley Thistle as a youngster.

His agent, Ken Anderson, said, “There are about four teams interested in signing Rory.

“From that I expect two will make an offer over the next 48 hours.”Wants full-time moveHe added, “He is back from his holidays now and able to focus on his future.

“He wants to move back into full-time football but the most important thing for him is to go to a club where he’ll be playing.

“There was actually a Championship club interested in him too but they already had five strikers so it wasn’t the right move for him.”

Saints are in the market for two new strikers, after clearing the decks at the end of last season and only recruiting Dundee’s Sean Higgins so far.

Perth boss Derek McInnes has several other irons in the fire, including Marcus Haber, who will link up with the Saints squad on their pre-season training camp in Ireland.

Other trialists are also expected in Perth over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Elgin City are trying to fix up Saints’ under-19 goalkeeper Zander Clark on a season-long loan.
