Jim Jefferies fears losing young guns if Dunfermline continue to blow away opposition

Dunfermline boss Jim Jefferies has conceded it could be difficult to hang on to his young stars if they continue to play the way they have been doing.

Despite an enforced reshuffle in the summer, the new-look Pars sit just a point off top spot in the First Division after winning six of their first seven league games.

That sort of form will make anyone title contenders, although Jefferies admits it will also catch the eye of clubs playing at a higher level.

”These players are doing the club proud,” Jefferies noted.

”We are a relatively new side after all the stuff about what league we were going to be in but we have signed hungry young players from the lower divisions as the club had to cut its wage bill drastically.

”There is a long way to go and a lot of things to contend with but the biggest fear is that a good young side like this will attract attention.

”If they keep doing what they are doing, someone else is going to come along and they will be snatched away.”

Following their impressive 3-0 win at Hamilton last weekend, Jefferies once again stressed that no-one at the club would be getting carried away with their fine opening to the campaign.

”Falkirk drew at Hamilton so I told the players that it would be their stiffest test so far, with no disrespect to Cowdenbeath, Airdrie or Dumbarton,” he said.

”It was going to be the toughest test but to come away winning 3-0 is just fantastic for us.

”But we will keep our feet on the ground and not make any predictions that we are going to be up there winning the championship.

”The aim this year was to make sure that we are up there challenging, playing a good brand of football so that the fans can thoroughly enjoy the season.

”So far we are pleasing a lot of people with the way we are playing, and long may that continue.”
