Teamwork will be crucial if Raith Rovers are to maintain their fantastic start to the first division season.
That’s the belief of manager John McGlynn who has praised his players after finishing the first quarter of the season just a point off the league summit.
McGlynn, who will celebrate four years in charge at Stark’s Park next month, hailed his squad for performing as a unit and believes that the promising start to the league campaign has seen players at both ends of the pitch spur one another on.
Approving of the mentality within the camp, the Rovers boss told Courier Sport, “From the minute I walked in we’ve tried to work on the team.
“We’ve never had anyone who scores 25 goals a season but the whole team has to work together. It gives defenders confidence if the forwards are scoring goals because quite often one mistake can lead to a defeat
“Similarly if strikers are scoring and they see leaks at the back it could have an effect on them. It’s not about one thing or another but the whole team contributing and working hard together to get results and win football matches.”
Another factor in Raith’s strong start to the campaign has been the strengthening of the playing pool over the summer according to McGlynn.
Three new faces John Baird, Willie Dyer and Andy McNeil arrived at Stark’s Park in the close season; additions that the Rovers boss believes have raised the overall quality of the squad.
However, while aware that there is no room for complacency at what remains an early stage in the promotion chase, McGlynn does admit that the early signs please him.
He added, “Part of the success that we’ve been having is that from the moment I came in, we’ve tried to enhance the squad and make it better. Now we’re getting the results of four years hard work both on and off the park.
“Part and parcel is bringing new players to Raith Rovers and that’s been happening gradually. It’s still very early though but we’ve given ourselves a great platform to build on what we’ve already achieved.”
