Airdrie v Forfar: Campbell says real Diamonds pose a threat

Mark Baxter is back after leaving at half-time last week for the birth of his son.

Forfar sit proudly atop the League One table at the moment and travel to face rock-bottom Airdrie this afternoon.

However, Loons boss Dick Campbell won’t be taking anything for granted against Gary Bollan’s strugglers, especially after the Diamonds beat previous league leaders Ayr last weekend.

At the same time, Forfar were sealing victory over Brechin in the Angus derby at Station Park, a game that was also notable for the half-time departure of the home side’s Mark Baxter as he rushed to be at his partner’s side as she gave birth to their baby son.

Campbell said: “I have to admit I am happy enough with the position we are in and it is certainly better to be looking down the table than up.

“I felt we won fairly comfortably last week and it would be difficult to make many changes because of the way we are playing at the moment but I have been here before and I am not getting carried away or ahead of myself.

“I am certainly not fooled by Airdrie’s current position. They are a good side and we will have to be wary going there.

“I am not surprised, though, that we are doing well early in the season as I believe I signed some right good players during the summer and they are showing that now.

“Having said that, I am still looking for improvement I believe there is still more to come from the lads.

“I named my team on Thursday night although Derek Young picked up a wee knock in training.

“Hopefully, he will be all right for the trip to Airdrie as he is an important player for us.

“We will also have Mark Baxter available following the birth of his son last week.

“I thought it was him having the bairn as he ran straight off and into his car still wearing his kit!

“Seriously, though, I am delighted for him and, even with the new arrival, he hasn’t missed training this week.”
