Annan 3 Montrose 3: Angus men fight back for a point

Ross Campbell was relieved to banish the previous week’s “embarrassing” 7-0 defeat at Stirling Albion by helping Montrose fight back for a point against Annan.

The striker won two penalties and scored one of them as the Gable Endies wiped out a 3-1 deficit in the last eight minutes at Galabank.

Campbell said: “The most important thing is that we’ve put last Tuesday behind us. We were unbeaten in four going into that game, but to get beat 7-0 was an embarrassment.”

The Gable Endies took the lead just after the half hour when Adrian Mallagaray forced in from close range.

Annan looked to have claimed the points when goals from Ryan McStay, Bryan Gilfillan and Matty Flynn put them 3-1 up.

But penalties from Campbell and Gary Fraser in the last eight minutes both given for fouls by Ben Jago on Campbell earned the Gable Endies a big point.

Jago was sent off for the second incident, in stoppage time.

Montrose are six points outside the play-offs but seven points off bottom spot having played three games more than East Stirling.

Campbell admits he still doesn’t know whether they should be setting their sights on the promotion play-offs or avoiding a repeat of last season’s relegation play-off.

He said: “If anybody goes on a run just now it can move them right up this league, so we probably won’t know until around April which direction we should be looking.”
