East Fife player-manager Gary Naysmith watched his side grind out a deserved win over Berwick Rangers and praised his side for winning ugly.
The Fifers were well worth the victory which keeps them on the coattails of the top four.
It was a game short on incident, but that is of no consequence to the Fife gaffer, who was just happy to see his side keep the three points in Methil.
He said: “I thought we dealt with Berwick quite comfortably.
“I was a bit surprised at how defensive they were for a team which had won their last two games and if they had beaten us went within a point.
“But that worked out fine for us because it gave myself and Jason Kerr a lot of the ball at the back. There’s no doubt we deserved the win.”
Berwick have been in good form of late and arrived at Bayview chasing their third win on the trot.
But it wasn’t to be and the Methil men looked comfortable.
Jason Kerr hit the post during the first half with an Allan Walker free-kick testing Liam Kelly in the East Fife goal.
The second half was barely a couple of minutes old when the Methil men took the lead.
Kyle Wilkie worked space for himself on the wing and delivered a pin-point cross which was met by Nathan Austin.
The striker’s header bounced back off both posts and dribbled along the line before eventually crossing it.
From there the Fifers didn’t really pose much of a threat in attack and were content to soak up the Berwick pressure which they did with ease.
Naysmith added that he hopes to build his squad in the coming weeks.
He said: “I still think we need a striker and need an attacking wide player. Kevin Smith is making good progress and could be back a week on Tuesday.
“We’ve been without him for about 10 weeks.
“We were quite close to getting another player in but the team he’s with needed him. Hopefully we can bring in one other player.”
