Raith Rovers boss relaxed over possible new signings

Other Championship clubs may be strengthening in the January window, but Raith Rovers boss Grant Murray says he is not feeling under any particular pressure to add to his squad.

The Rovers manager is still looking to bring in new faces but only if they are the right fit for the Fife club, and Murray is certainly not panicking because league rivals are bolstering their playing pool.

Clubs like Dundee and Morton have been among those making more moves than others this month, although Murray, who moved to bring in former Hibs full back Fraser Mullen recently, remains relaxed about the possibility of further signings before the window closes.

“It’s one of these things I’ve said all along about the transfer window that, whether you agree with it or not, you will always get asked the question,” he explained.

“Of course we want to bring players in, every manager is going to say that. Whether you can or you can’t is a different thing.

“We had a turnaround in the summer with a number of bodies, so we did that then.

“I’ve always stated that if the right player was to become available and it was in my hands to go and do something then yes we would.”

There have been suggestions that Rovers may be in the market for a striker, having failed to score in their last four league games, but Murray is convinced his forwards will come good again.

“At this moment in time I’ve got to put faith in the guys I’ve got,” he continued.

“Greig Spence was already here from last season and you look at the goals he scored last season, so he’ll be desperate to get back on the scoresheet.

“Gordon Smith scored goals and Calum Elliot is an out-and-out goal scorer and goal-maker, and he’s been involved in probably 75% of the goals we’ve scored this season.”

Murray also rejected the notion that his head could be turned by former Scotland striker Derek Riordan’s offer to clubs to play for free, while he confirmed that former Blackpool forward Craig Sutherland was merely training with Rovers.
