Stranraer 0 Cowdenbeath 3: Blue Brazil bag first points on the road

Kyle Miller scored Cowden's second goal.
Kyle Miller scored Cowden's second goal.

Cowdenbeath moved four points clear of rock-bottom Brechin after a comfortable win at Stair Park.

Bradley Donaldson, Kyle Miller and Robbie Buchanan found the target as Colin Nish’s men picked up their first points on the road.

The manager revealed leading at half time through Donaldson’s 11th minute header was crucial in going on to pick up the three points in blustery conditions.

He said: “The first half was always going to be hard with the wind.

“Stranraer had a couple of chances but so did we to go further in front.

“When we came in at half time, I was always confident we could go on and win the game because we had that wind in our favour in the second half.

“The boys really grew into the game and it is a confidence thing for us at the moment.”

The visitors opened the scoring when Donaldson made it two goals in two games as he nodded home Andy Murdoch’s header at the near post.

Stranraer had plenty of chances to level things before the break with Mark McGuigan and ex-Dunfermline duo Ryan Thomson and Andy Stirling missing glaring opportunities.

But Nish’s men piled on the pressure after the break and deservedly extended their lead just before the hour mark.

Donaldson was again involved as his cross was nodded down by Greig Spence and swept home by Miller.

Stranraer’s comeback never materialised and substitute Robbie Buchanan rolled the ball into the bottom left corner of the net from inside the box with just five minutes to go.

Nish added: “I think the boys are starting to get there now and we are starting to build a bit of consistency both performance wise and team selection.”
