East Fife v Stirling: Naysmith calls on players to secure League One status

East Fife manager Gary Naysmith wants his men to carry on where they left off against Stirling Albion and secure their League One status at Bayview.

The Fifers were a goal down at half-time in Wednesday meeting. However, a major tactical change from Naysmith, and a stirring ending, saw that first leg meeting end in a 2-1 win.

Naysmith now wants his men to complete the job.

He said: “The first half at Stirling was disappointing as we left Kevin Smith too isolated in their half of the park.

“We never created much and then lost a goal when Stirling had a bit of pressure before half-time.

“We changed things around and pushing Pat Clarke up made a huge difference as did the introduction of Scott McBride.

“We had much more of a threat going forward and the longer the game went on the stronger we became.

“We scored twice and now have a home leg to come with an advantage. It is a slight advantage and I have to decide whether to go for more goals and kill things off or sit a bit tighter.

“The one thing I am sure of is that Stirling will attack us at some point, they have to.

“No matter what our tactics are, if we start as strongly as we finished the other night we have a real chance.”

Naysmith praised his players for their resilience.

He said: “We have had a difficult and disappointing season but the players keep battling back.

“We were behind against Clyde in the semi-finals and won through and we were behind against Stirling and came back to win.

“The spirit is good but we have to show that spirit from the first minute again. There is only the finest margin between the teams.”

Naysmith is hopeful that Scott Durie will shake off a knock and that goalkeeper Greg Paterson will return after an eye injury.

Joe Mbu is doubtful after being injured in the warm-up in midweek.
