Pars may have some cash to spend in January, says Yorkston

Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston has revealed manager Jim McIntyre may have money to spend in the January transfer window.

The Pars are bottom of the SPL after a dismal run of just one win in their last 14 league matches and they were hammered 4-0 by Hearts on Saturday.

McIntyre has been hampered all season by a crippling injury list, with the jinx continuing at Tynecastle when goalkeeper Paul Gallacher arguably their best player so far partially dislocated his shoulder.

The Dunfermline board met on Monday to discuss their plans for the January transfer window and Yorkston insisted everything possible would be done to help McIntyre and his team.

He said: ”We’ve been talking with the manager about the transfer window. Let’s just say there are a couple of options and we are looking at them.

”We would like to help the manager out as much as we can and the bottom line is allowing him to bring in a few players. There’s no great figure on the numbers yet and how much we give him depends on a couple of things being clarified.

”The injury situation plays a big part in it. We have had 11 players out and that kind of thing doesn’t help. It will depend on a number of things, but, for instance, if we were to get Steven Bell, Nick Phinn and Craig Easton all fit then we might not need to sign a midfielder.”

Another player who has been out injured is on-loan Hearts defender Jason Thomson. The full-back revealed he had been told he was free to leave Tynecastle and has already expressed a desire to continue his spell at East End Park beyond the end of his current deal on January 2.

However Yorkston insisted the 24-year-old’s recovery from his groin problem would play a significant part in the decision to keep him.

He added: ”I believe Jason has been told by Hearts that he can leave but it’s up to the manager whether we try and keep him or not. A lot will depend on his injury.”
