Deadline day round-up: Leigh Griffiths’ Celtic deal good news for Dundee

Dundee will receive a six-figure financial boost following Leigh Griffiths’ transfer from Wolves to Celtic.

The 23-year-old Scotland striker moved from Molineux in a deal believed to be in excess of £1 million.

That triggered a sell-on clause between the Dark Blues and Wolves when Griffiths moved there on a £150,000 transfer in 2011.

Dundee are now due a sum from the English League One club, with Courier Sport understanding the figure is over £100,000.

The front man was on the radar of Hoops boss Neil Lennon, who had two offers rebuffed earlier this week.

It was third time lucky though, with Griffiths travelling to Celtic Park to undergo a medical and complete the signing formalities, news greeted with delight at Dens.

Meanwhile, Dundee completed the signing of winger/midfielder Sean Bonnett-Johnson.

He will go straight into the squad for today’s home game against Alloa should, as expected, international clearance be obtained.

Bonnett-Johnson, whose last club was Billericay Town, has been training at Dens for some time and has agreed a deal to the end of the season.

Dunfermline completed an impressive double deal on transfer deadline day to bring in a duo of Scottish Premiership players.

First in the door was former St Johnstone and Dundee United defender Danny Grainger.

Grainger, 27, has made 13 appearances for St Mirren this season.

Then came midfielder Ross Forbes, 25, who featured 20 times for the Jags this term.

Cowdenbeath manager Jimmy Nicholl brought his total number of transfer window signings to six when he finalised deals to secure 23-year-old goalkeeper Sebastian Usai, who had been with Swedish club AFC United, and 22-year-old former Aberdeen midfielder Sammy Stewart.

Usai, a 6ft 3in keeper of dual Australian/Italian nationality, and Stewart, formerly of Glenavon and Portadown in Northern Ireland, were free agents and have been signed until the end of the season.

And the Central Park upheaval has seen four players leave goalkeeper Grant Adam, midfielder Marc McKenzie, striker Andy Russell and, as of yesterday, experienced former full-back David Cowan.

The big deal in the Championship saw Falkirk midfielder Jay Fulton move to Swansea.

The Bairns rejected several verbal offers for defender Stephen Kingsley and signed Celtic defender Joe Chalmers on loan.

Montrose signed striker Calum Ferguson on loan from Inverness and defender Craig Duguid on an 18-month contract after his release from Aberdeen.
