DUNDEE’S continuing injury woes have worsened with the news that central midfielder Graham Webster is likely to be sidelined for at least a couple of months.
The 20-year-old had a scan last week to assess damage to his knee and it has emerged that he has torn ligaments, meaning he is likely to be ruled out for some time.
While Webster has only made five appearances this season, three of which were from the subs’ bench, his absence is yet another blow to Dark Blues boss Barry Smith who has been forced to contend with a lengthy injury list since Dundee’s promotion to the SPL.
“It seems like the story of our season to be short on bodies but we’ll just have to soldier on,” Smith admitted.
“It’s not ideal but we’ll just have to get on with it.”
The bottom dogs headed for Dingwall at the weekend with just 14 fit outfield players and Dundee fans will be hoping some of the injured stars will be back sooner rather than later to bolster the club’s survival bid.
Webster who is now on crutches joins a number of long-term casualties currently on Dundee’s books, with the likes of Mark Kerr, Davide Grassi, Carl Finnigan and skipper Stephen O’Donnell among those who have been on the treatment table in recent weeks.
Striker Finnigan had a successful knee operation a fortnight ago and will be out until at least the New Year, while defender Grassi had a fresh setback while recovering from his own knee problem and also underwent surgery at the start of the month, ruling him out for a further 12 weeks.
Kerr, meanwhile, is hopeful of returning soon following his knee injury, while O’Donnell (hamstring), Brian Easton (hamstring), Jamie McCluskey (achilles) and forward Mark Stewart (knee) have also been among those sidelined in recent weeks.
Striker Steven Milne missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Ross County after injuring a stomach muscle, although it is hoped he will be fit for the trip to Inverness this weekend.
