Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven is poised to sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic.
The Parkhead club have contacted Tannadice chairman Stephen Thompson to inform them that they will be approaching their player.
With his current deal coming to an end in the summer, the Scotland international is free to chat to potential new employers.
Mackay-Steven, 24, has been in sparkling form for United recently, scoring four goals in his last three matches, and has obviously impressed Hoops boss Ronny Deila.
With Celtic now involved, their interest is likely to trump that of the likes of Sheffield United, who have had a new derisory £80,000 bid for Mackay-Steven rejected. From the blogs: Celtic wouldn’t be the best place for GMSThis latest development will be bitter-sweet for United fans because if, as expected, he does sign on a pre-contract for the champions it will mean that they will be losing one of their top talents to one of their major Premiership rivals but it will ensure that they will have his services for the remainder of the season rather than losing him this month.
On a busy day at Tannadice, United were also believed to have shown an interest in Estonian international striker Henri Anier.
Anier, 24, who was with Motherwell last season and scored nine times for the Fir Park club, has been playing in Bundesliga 2 in Germany with Erzgerbirge Aue since joining them from the Steelmen.
The Tangerines have been linked with Partick Thistle’s Stephen O’Donnell as well, with a move for the Scotland under-21 defender a distinct possibility.
Also, Mark Wilson has left the club by mutual consent, with United settling up his contract.
