Returning heroes target Fife Flyers success

Two local heroes will be back in Fife Flyers’ colours this season, it has been confirmed.

Euan Forsyth and Jamie Wilson have re-signed and should be in the line-up for the Kirkcaldy club’s pre-season challenge against Aalborg Pirates on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 at Fife Ice Arena.

Defenceman Forsyth joined Flyers last season from Elite League rivals Dundee Stars but previously played for the Fife outfit in the British National League from 2002 to 2005.

Kirkcaldy-born Forsyth also has experience with the Great Britain under-20 team as well as English Premier League sides Slough Jets, Chelmsford Chieftans and Swindon Wildcats.

He said: “I have worked hard this summer to be ready for the season and I am looking forward to getting back on the ice and playing week in week out at the level I know I am capable of.”

Wilson, who is also from Kirkcaldy, joined Flyers back in 2003 and said: “I’m sure this upcoming year is going to be an exciting one for the organisation.

“We hope to build on last year’s achievements and it looks like we are putting together a solid team.”

Meanwhile Rob Ricci last night admitted he has done his homework about Dundee Stars.

The 29-year-old forward from Ontario has signed for the Stars after playing for Danish side Odense last season.

Ricci said: “I’m thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to joining Dundee.

“I’ve heard good things about the town, organisation and fans. I’m looking to come in and enjoy the experience and help contribute to a successful season.”

Stars’ coach Jeff Hutchins believes Canadian Ricci is a quality player he has enjoyed success at various levels.

His professional career began five years ago when signed with the Las Vegas Wranglers. Then he moved to Odense Bulldogs of Denmark’s AL-Bank Ligaen and earned a place in the Danish League All-Star Team.

Hutchins said: “Rob is a quality player that has had success at various levels in his career.

“He is a guy who I will rely on for leadership and offence. He is motivated and I can’t wait to work with him.”
