Chris O’Hare eyes title at British Indoor Championships

Scottish indoor one-mile record-holder Chris O’Hare contests the 1,500m at the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield this weekend.

The 25-year-old European bronze medallist, who shaved seven-hundredths off his own record set three years earlier, lines up in the heats.

Lynsey Sharp looks set to add the UK 800m title to her growing list of honours, having set a Scottish indoor record in the event in Boston recently.

Under-20 Perth Strathtay Harrier Ben Greenwood is in the men’s 800m, along with Guy Learmonth (Lasswade).

Greg Rutherford has pulled out of the championships through illness, but still plans to compete at next month’s World Indoor Championships in Portland.

The Olympic long jump champion, who was forced to miss last Saturday’s Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix with a small muscle tear, has withdrawn after suffering a chest infection.

Meanwhile Andrew Butchart will defend his Scottish Cross-Country title at Falkirk.

Fife AC will launch a determined challenge for the team title with Megan Crawford, Angela Richardson, Helen Sharpe, Sophie Mullins and Sheena Logan all taking part.

Fife will also hope for team honours in the women’s under-20 race, where Stephanie Pennycook challenges for a podium place.

Dundee Hawkhill will look to their under-17 men’s squad for team honours, led by James Donald and Andrew Merry.

The Perth Strathtay Harrier Sol Sweeney will start as favourite for the individual title, having won the Scottish 4km Cross-Country title last November.

In the younger age groups Scottish Inter-District Under 13 champion Lewis Dow heads a strong Pitreavie team, while Anna Hedley (Fife AC) contests the girls’ race having won both East and Scottish Inter-District titles this season.
