Giveaway: Your chance to win free tickets to see Irvine Welsh in Dundee

Irvine Welsh will be in Dundee on April 12.

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh launches his 10th book, A Decent Ride, in a tour of Scotland which takes in Dundee’s Gardyne Theatre on April 12.

The Courier is offering one lucky winner the chance to get their hands on a pair of tickets to the evening event with the author as he delves into his new novel. He or she will also win two signed copies of the book and two T-shirts.

Billed as Welsh’s funniest, filthiest book yet, he celebrates a central character who is shameless but also, oddly, decent and finds new ways of making wild comedy out of fantastically dark material, taking on some of the last taboos.

The novel sees Welsh back on home turf, leaving us in the capable hands of one of his most compelling and popular characters, ‘Juice’ Terry Lawson, and introducing another bound for cult status, Wee Jonty MacKay, “a man with the genitals and brain of a donkey”.

Courier writer Gayle Ritchie caught up with the author ahead of the Dundee event next Sunday. He covered everything from life after Trainspotting to his love of music and DJing, and swapping drink and drugs for healthy living. And even though he hasn’t had an alcoholic drink this year, he revealed he’s looking forward to enjoying a few bevvies during his Scottish tour.

Check out our exclusive interview in our Weekend magazine on April 11.

To enter the competition, email your name, address and phone number to gritchie@thecourier.co.uk by 5pm on Thursday April 9.

We’ll select a winner at random and tell them how to claim their prize.
