Coming up in Thursday’s Courier Dancing teacakes

Coming Up is having problems, people.

We like to bring you a taster of the next day’s paper around this time of day, just to whet your appetite, build anticipation and let you start saving the 70p necessary to buy our august publication.

But we can’t concentrate for the sheer unadulterated excitement building across Scotland for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

We’ve cleared page after page for the cultural festival o’ fun which will open the Games.

It’s been declared a politics-free zone (you can vote here if you think that’s true) and there have been rumours of dancing teacakes, frolicking fish suppers and flying Buckie bottles in a celebration of wur cultchur. (Coming Up loves rumours and believes them all we accept that some of these things may not come to pass.)

There are also sure to be plenty of fireworks, presumably powered by the dynamite which is not now blowing up the Red Row flats in a move which, we’ve already pointed out before, would in no way have gone wrong in any way.

What is true at time of writing, is that we are expecting something pretty special and we’ll bring all the news and views in Thursday’s Courier.

If you don’t fancy the Commonwealth Games though, we’ve plenty of other stuff on offer.

The new Queensferry is progressing apace and we look at the latest building work, as well as casting back to when the current road bridge was at the same stage.

A ship which would be insulted were it to be branded as mere “luxury” docked in Dundee and we had an exclusive tour inside. See our video here. And we’ve got some terrific boffinry about how dogs are essentially jealous creatures who don’t like it when you give more than a passing glance to another canine.

And if you’re looking for something a bit different, have a gander at this time lapse video of the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier taking to water.

The easiest way to get all this is through our our digital edition but I would urge you to get a paper copy. It just feels right.
