The windsept isles of the Uists, Orkney, Shetland and Iceland come to life in a new exhibition in Forfar.
Artist and printmaker Silvana McLean’s new Northlandings exhibition is on show at the Meffan Museum.
The display features multi-layered textural paintings and etchings inspired by journeys north to Iceland, with the Uists, Orkney and Shetland being vital stepping stones on the way.
A spokesperson said, “Iceland in particular offered the artist an opportunity to visually study the landscape and to understand more fully the immense forces which formed the landscape of Scotland so long ago.
“The experience of such elemental vastness has resulted in large works which attempt to show the scale of impact on the senses.”
Silvana studied at Glasgow School of Art, specialising in drawing and painting. She is an elected member of the Society of Scottish Artists and her work hangs in many public and private collections including Shetland Museum, Gracefield Arts Centre and the National Library of Scotland.
She also lectures part-time in art and design at Dumfries and Galloway College and lives and works in Moniaive.
Northlandings runs until Saturday, September 4.
The Meffan is in Forfar’s West High Street and is open from Monday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm. Admission is free.
