Art lovers from all over Angus and further afield have converged on the clifftop village of Auchmithie to enjoy the community’s first dedicated arts festival.
In recent years the picturesque village has become home to a diverse and ever-growing group of creative artists, most of whom have played a prominent part in the annual Heritage Arts Auchmithie Residents (HAAR) festival.
This year the artists decided there was sufficient interest and volume to support a stand-alone arts festival. Over the weekend a total of 15 venues most of them private homes but also including the Annie Gilruth Memorial Hall and St Peter’s Church hosted exhibitions of work by local and guest artists and craft workers.
The work on display covered areas as diverse as painting, wildlife photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and costume jewellery created from recycled materials.
Included in the exhibition was a selection of works produced at the art classes held in the Annie Gilruth Memorial Hall over the winter, taught by local resident and Arbroath High School art and design teacher Rikki Craig.
A significant proportion of the works on display were inspired by the area around Auchmithie itself.
