A Fife man was caught driving when unfit to do so after police officers in a patrol vehicle became aware of the smell of burning rubber coming from his car’s shredded tyre.
Shaun Ferguson said he had driven the car from Kinross without noticing the condition of the tyre.
Ferguson, 38, of Droverhall Place, Crossgates, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on July 24, on the A909 at Cowdenbeath, he drove a car when he was unfit to do so through consumption of either drink or drugs.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf told the court a police patrol car was in Bridge Street, Cowdenbeath, at 3.50am when officers smelled burning rubber and saw a vehicle on the road with smoke coming from it.
They stopped the car and saw the smoke was coming from a front tyre.
It was described to the court as being completely shredded when the officers inspected it.
Ferguson was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred.
“He told police officers he’d driven from Kinross and was not aware of the condition of the tyre,” added the depute.
The court was told he is already on a community payback order.
In November, Ferguson was banned from driving for three years for a similar offence.
Sheriff Alastair Brown called for reports.
Ferguson will be sentenced on March 11.
