A thug who left a fellow party-goer permanently scarred after smashing a bottle of vodka in his face has been jailed.
Robert Fleming, 23, left Connor Henderson bloodied and with multiple lacerations after an early-morning row on Brown Constable Street on August 11.
A sheriff said Fleming – who was jailed just weeks ago for a high-speed car chase across the Tay Road Bridge – was lucky not to have blinded his victim in both eyes.
Mr Henderson required a three-hour operation after suffering a 10cm gash to his left arm with a laceration on his forehead down to the bone.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard the pair had bickered throughout the evening at the party but became involved in a “heated” argument just before 3am.
They were then involved in a scuffle, which was broken up, and a mutual friend hosting the party asked them both to leave. Fleming was seen leaving with a glass bottle of vodka.
A witness later saw Mr Henderson bleeding profusely in the common close and “screaming in pain”.
Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin said: “She tried to assist him down the stairs but the complainer slipped and fell.
“Paramedics attended and saw the complainer had significant injures to his arms and face, a large laceration on his forehead, was bleeding profusely and had a deep laceration on the upper and lower arm.
“His right shoulder was dislocated by the fall.
“The accused later sent a Snapchat message to someone at the party admitting responsibility.”
Appearing from custody, Fleming, a prisoner at HMP Perth, admitted repeatedly striking Mr Henderson on the head and body with the bottle to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Solicitor Douglas McConnell said that Fleming wanted to apologise to his victim and that the offence was “somewhat out of character”.
Jailing Fleming for three years and five months, Sheriff Alastair Brown said: “You must have driven that bottle straight at the centre of his face.
“He was fortunate and you were fortunate you did not blind him in both eyes.
“I regard this as a very serious offence.”
