More than 800 people have signed a petition calling for Abertay University to cancel exams and assessments.
The university will proceed with online exams for some subjects but allow students to defer them until the end of June, as well as offering a ten-day extension on assessments.
However, students say the measures do not go far enough for those struggling with their mental health or who have lost loved ones to coronavirus.
The petition, titled RallyforReasonAbertay, states: “Now is not the time for assessments.
“Now is the time for focus on our families, volunteering and communities. As other institutions acknowledge this whilst mindful of their students wellbeing we are still carrying on.
“We ask for generic module passes to ensure a fair universal approach for all institutions within Scotland.”
One student, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “Not only did it take Abertay an additional week to make the decision to switch to online learning they have significantly disregarded the voices of many students who are in situations that are crippling to mental well-being.
“People are grieving for parents and the best Abertay can offer is a 10 day extension?”
An Abertay University spokesman said if a student lost a loved one they would be excused from exams through usual mitigating circumstances policy.
Principal of Abertay University, Professor Nigel Seaton said: “The safety and wellbeing of our students is the university’s number one priority and we have introduced a series of measures to tackle stress and concern around assessments and exams.
“We have removed or modified all exams where possible and just 9% of assessments will now be carried out as exams this term, with these taking place online.
“The majority of these are linked to professional qualifications from accrediting bodies, meaning it would disadvantage students to remove them.
“All students can defer any exams or assessments to the end of June with no questions asked.
“All students can also take up a 10-day extension on their assessments at any time should they wish to do so.
“Many Scottish universities, including all modern universities like Abertay, are continuing with assessments to some extent, with many adapting exams and/or scaling them back as we have.”
