Police investigating an assault on a train conductor are seeking a man they believe can help their inquiry.

The attack happened after a passenger on a Kirkcaldy-bound service became aggressive and was asked to leave the train at Edinburgh Gateway.

He followed the conductor onto the platform and assaulted him.

British Transport Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to, and hope that someone will recognise him.

A statement from the force said: “Officers would like to identify him as they believe he may be able to assist with their inquiries into an assault of a train conductor which took place at Edinburgh Gateway station.”

The attacker and another man boarded the Kirkcaldy train at Haymarket at around 9.20pm on December 2.

He became threatening and aggressive to other passengers and was asked to leave by the conductor as the train arrived at Edinburgh Gateway.

Anyone who recognises the man in the footage is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040 and quoting reference 573 of December 2.
