Did you take part in any of Tayside and Fife’s spookiest events for Halloween growing up?
Throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s and into the noughties, we’ve seen plenty of youngsters across Courier country pumpkin carving or trick-or-treating as they’ve donned some of the country’s finest costumes.
We’ve unearthed these images from our archives to reminisce the joys (and frights) of the season.

The search is on the find the young woman hidden under this spooky mask from 1969.
This young guiser was well prepared for Halloween and even had a witch’s hat to don for the occasion!
Even as early as the 60s, people from Tayside and Fife were more than happy to get into the spirit of the season.
Costume competition
The Halloween party at Whitfield Primary School in 1970 wasn’t just for fun and games.
Here are the Under 8s competing in the fancy dress competition run by the Whitfield Tennants Association!

Sweet treats
Andrew Kerr, Mandy Griffin, Steven Adam and Gaynor Roney were hard at work eating treacle scones at Dundee’s Ardler Community Centre playgroup’s Halloween party.
The event in 1975 provided many youngsters with the opportunity to get their sugar fill for the day.
No Halloween party is complete without some sweets!
Frightful Frankenstein
Frankenstein’s Monster was among those getting involved in some Halloween fun at Dallfield Day Nursey in Dundee in 1978.

Here are the kids from Menziehill Nursery enjoying their Halloween Party in 1985.

The Lochgelly Sun Flower Nursery Halloween Party went all out with their costumes in true 80s style.

Bobbing for apples
The Principal of Ross Terrace Nursery, Muriel Masterson, and the kids kept themselves well amused bobbing for apples during their Halloween party.
The Perth nursery donned fun hats and costumes for their celebration in 1986.

Second time lucky?
Its hard to say if the Lochee Toddlers were inspired by Perth’s games, but they certainly seem to be having just as much fun!

Pumpkin carving
Oranges and Lemons Nursery held a Halloween party for their kids in 2009.
The Nursery in Clement Park Place, Dundee, made the kids earn their sweets with some pumpkin carving!

Zombies in Fife
The Level 5 drama students from Fife College turned the Kingsgate Shopping Centre into a scene from The Walking Dead with their spooky flash mob in 2011.
The students, dressed as zombies, made their way through the centre on Halloween much to the delight and fright of the other shoppers!

Celebrations at Camperdown
Hannah Fisher of Dundee and Jamie Hughes of Invergowrie were joined by city councillor Ralph Keenan at Halloween in 2000.
The celebrations at Camperdown Wildlife Centre marked the season with face painting and fantastic costumes!

Pumpkins galore!
Pupils from Sidlaw View Primary School, Dundee, took part in a haunting Halloween treasure hunt at Asda Kirkton in 2009.
The P1 pupils dressed up as little ghosts and were each given a party bag and a pumpkin to decorate.
They ended the afternoon tired out from all the sugar and the games they played!
Scream!
It was Halloween costume day at Muirfield Primary School in Arbroath that gave the kids the chance to put their make-up skills to the test in 2011.

Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery put on a Halloween themed workshop for kids in 2011.

Even the owls were getting involved with Halloween a couple of years ago at the Scottish Deer Centre.
This European eagle owl was getting to grips with a pumpkin at the Cupar sanctuary.
