St Andrews Museum will be the venue for an exclusive Scottish showing of a touring arts exhibition from January 22 to March 6.

Fife Contemporary Art and Craft is hosting the only Scottish showing of Lanwei/Decaying End, a Chinese Arts Centre touring exhibition.

This is the first solo photography exhibition by Hong Kong artist Stanley Wong, also known as anothermountainman.

The photographs are part of an ongoing work documenting abandoned, incomplete building projects from across Asia.

The exhibition looks at the economic downturn and its relation to the physical imagery of cities in China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, Turkey and Singapore.

In Wong’s photographs buildings loom empty and abandoned, but far from being literal documentary images they are also sites where captivating and mysterious scenes are staged.

His images reflect his experience as one of Asia’s leading advertising executives.

Subjects often focus on social issues and Wong’s affection for his homeland Hong Kong.

His photographs and installations are shown internationally the works redwhiteblue were shown at the 2005 Venice Biennale.

Wong is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale, whose membership comprises the most elite graphic designers from around the world.

Group director Diana A. Sykes said, “Fife Contemporary Art and Craft is pleased to bring Lanwei to St Andrews for its only Scottish showing.

“From the financially-squeezed UK it is fascinating to see an artist’s view on how the global economic downturn has impacted on developing China.”
