A group of young people from Perth is celebrating after completing the Prince’s Trust’s Get Started in the Environment programme.
Over four weeks, the young people worked on a variety of environmental and conservation activities, ranging from tree surgery and sapling removal to burn clearing, shelter building, survival skills and improving facilities on popular nature trails.
The programme is funded by Perth and Kinross Council.
It is delivered by the Prince’s Trust in partnership with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
The young people also developed a variety of practical skills and further enhanced their soft skills, such as communication, team building, leadership and confidence.
They will also achieve their bronze youth achievement award and the John Muir Award.
A celebration event at Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park in Perth gave the young people a chance to show some of their new skills through a series of information stations, as well as presenting thoughts and experiences of their time on the programme.
The nine young people were also awarded certificates in recognition of their achievements on the programme.
Ken Imrie, head of programme delivery at the Prince’s Trust Scotland, said, “Get Started in the Environment is a great initiative for supporting young people in moving their lives forward.
“The programme is designed to help some of Scotland’s hardest to reach young people re-engage with education and training, helping them to get their lives back on track, and motivate them towards finding sustainable employment.
“I would like to congratulate all of the young people who have completed the programme and I’m confident they now have the building blocks for a very positive future.”
