Seven weeks of roadworks have begun in Forfar.

Drivers came to understand what work at the west port junction entails during Tuesday’s morning rush hour.

The road’s closure, combined with work at the Asda store on St James’ Road, has hit the flow of peak-time traffic.

Work at the west port involves replacing the traffic signals and associated cables as well as road and pavement work on all four approaches.

The work began in West High Street and a road closure will be in place for at least two weeks from the junction to the West High Street car park.

Public transport will be affected on this route.

The alternative route by car is via Craig O’Loch Road to Queenswell Road, Castle Street, The Cross then on to West High Street.

An additional alternative route for westbound traffic is via East High Street, Couttie’s Wynd, St James’ Road then Dundee Loan.

Motorists at the roundabout adjacent to Chapel Street were frustrated as more cars were diverted on to that route.
