A deer that set up home in a Dundee cemetery was shot and killed on Saturday morning.
The roe deer had been regularly spotted in Roodyards burial ground for the past few years but as the animal matured there were increased concerns that it could pose cause a serious traffic accident as it roamed the area for a mate.
Because deer are unlikely to survive being tranquillised and moved to another area, police reluctantly advised shooting the animal.
It lived in an area of dense foliage that provides the only barrier between the mediaeval cemetery and Scotriders motorbike training centre.
Deer hunters were first sent to the cemetery on Tuesday night but failed to kill the deer and it was believed the marksmen had scared it away from the area.
However, deer are extremely territorial and the animal dubbed “Bambi” by local residents was soon spotted back in the cemetery.
Deerstalkers finally shot the animal on around 10.45 on Saturday morning.
Many residents who live near the cemetery say they believe killing the deer was unnecessary.
“I still can’t believe they shot it, “said Val Bell, of Ellengowan Road, whose house overlooks the burial ground.
