A Boxing Day thief who robbed a 12-year-old boy on a Dundee road has been branded the “lowest of the low.”

The youngster was left “shaken” after the man took his wallet at around 6.25pm on Sunday on Brownhill Road near Camperdown Church.

Officers are hunting a man described as between 20 and 25, 5ft 9in, slim, of mixed race appearance and with short, dark curly hair.

He was wearing a grey hooded top underneath a blue Nike jacket and blue jeans.

Councillor Tom Ferguson, whose Lochee ward includes Brownhill Road, described the robber as the “lowest of the low” and said he hoped the culprit would be brought to justice.

“It doesn’t matter what circumstances people find themselves in, anybody that has that in them should be removed from our streets and our society.

“I can’t believe that these kind of people are slithering around our shopping areas, and to target a 12-year-old is especially disgraceful.”

It is believed the robber may have seen the boy take out his wallet in the Lifestyle Express store on Brownhill Road shortly before the incident.

Sikander Zaveri, who works in the shop but was off duty on Sunday night, said he was “shocked but not surprised” at the robbery.

“It’s a bad area here nowadays. Someone came in and lifted the till out of the shop not that long ago. Nothing surprises me.

“It’s a real shame for the young lad.”
