Man who stole pound coin and can of lager in knifepoint robbery jailed for six and a half years
ByThe Courier Reporter
A man who robbed a pensioner at knifepoint for a can of lager and pound coin has been jailed for six and a half years.
Darren Small admitted threatening Norman Robertson with the blade and robbing him at Laing Place, Dundee, on September 25.
The 27-year-old was found guilty by a jury at Dundee Sheriff Court in January.
Small’s case was referred to the High Court in Edinburgh because Sheriff Kenneth McGowan believed the maximum sentence he could impose – of five years – was inadequate.
Lord Uist sentenced the repeat offender to five and a half years for the robbery and breach of bail and a further year for unlawfully having a knife in a public place at Brown Constable Street, in Dundee, the day after the robbery while out on bail.
