26 Dundee jobs at risk under plans to move Brakes Group jobs to Kent

One of Dundee’s leading food supply companies is to shed 26 jobs.

Brakes Dundee, based off Riverside Drive, has confirmed it has “entered a period of consultation” with 26 members of its credit control team in its Riverside distribution centre.

The consultation will include proposals to move the jobs to the company’s head office in Ashford, Kent.

The announcement has caused great anxiety among staff members, some of whom contacted The Courier regarding the proposed move.

One staff member said: “This is awful. The jobs are being moved to Ashford. There’s no way people can just up and leave Dundee and go and work down there.

“It’s supposed to be a consultation period but undoubtedly the consultation will be to tell people to move or lose their jobs. It’s a take it or leave it situation.”

The group statement conceded it was an “unsettling time” for the staff whose jobs are under threat.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm we have entered a period of consultation with 26 colleagues from our credit control team, based in Dundee, regarding a proposal to relocate the function to our group headquarters in Ashford.

“We will be discussing the proposals with them over the coming weeks and will continue to support our colleagues during this unsettling time.

“It would be inappropriate for us to comment any further while the consultation is ongoing.”

The Brakes Group is a leading supplier to the food service sector in the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden.

Founded in 1958, Brake Bros Foodservice Ltd (Dundee) acquired the Watson & Philip Foodservice in Dundee in October 1998, specialising in “ambient and chilled grocery products”.

The company has over 10,000 employees.
