A talented pair of stylists from a Perth hairdressing salon proved they are at the cutting edge of fashion to grab a place in the finals of a leading competition.

Stephanie Sommerville and Corinne Mowat from Copperfields created a show-stopping look in just 30 minutes.

They managed to beat off competition from over 20 rivals to get one step closer to securing the L’Oreal Professionnel Colour Trophy, after being named regional winner at the Glasgow finals.

Creating a style that showcased both their technical skills with colour and an eye for fashion, Stephanie and Corinne wowed the judging panel of respected and renowned hairdressers.

Of the inspiration behind their winning look, they said, “This year we took our inspiration from Thierry Mugler and Nicola Formichetti.

“We wanted to create a deep, dark edge, but one that still very much showed the femininity and softness of a woman. The soft curls draped over the face with a steel mauve panel gave it a contrasting look.

“Above all, though, we wanted to create something with absolute beauty, which is very much something L’Oreal always stands for.”

The pair will now head to Grosvenor House in London on July 4, where they will be one of 28 salons from across the UK competing for victory.Young Colourist AwardBefore that, however, Stephanie will face another challenge, as she is one of just five hairdressers under the age of 25 to make it through to the Scottish regional final of the Young Colourist Award.

She will travel to Manchester next month to put her skills to the test. She is no stranger to competition as last year she saw off some of the best up-and-coming stylists to become one of L’Oreal’s Scottish ID artists. Each of the regional finalists will have 45 minutes to demonstrate their ability to cut and colour. They will also have to present their artistic ideas and technical theory to the panel, which consists of Kate Wilson, Michelle Lawley, Jo Handsford and Chris Williams. Some 12 stylists will be chosen from each of the seven regions to form the L’Oreal Professionnel Colour Trophy Academy 2011.
