A charity event has been cancelled just weeks before it was due to take place.
The Kiltwalk was set to take place in the Fair City for the first time but organisers decided to merge it with the Dundee event after too few people signed up.
Participants are being transferred free of charge to the new event, which will take place on September 20.
In a statement on its website, Kiltwalk organisers said: “We were looking forward to our first event in the city and we know this will come as a huge disappointment; however, the decision has been made for the best possible reasons, which we hope you will support.
“With low participant sign-ups for Perth, to go ahead with the event would involve running the event at a financial loss, and would affect the grants returned to both our charity partners and the amazing causes nominated by our Kiltwalk teams.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
However, Perth and Kinross Council has announced that it will run an alternative event on August 8, the day the Kiltwalk was meant to take place.
Officials have joined forces with Perth Autism Support to ensure that a sponsored kilted walking event still goes ahead in the city.
Councillor Bob Ellis, race director of the Perth Kilt Run, said: “As soon as the event team heard that the Kiltwalk was not continuing with the planned Perth event, we stepped in to make sure that the walk could go ahead.”
Those wishing to take part in the Perth event must re-register at www.perthkiltrun.co.uk, as Kiltwalk are unable to share details with the council.
