Council-run care homes in Perth and Kinross have received “very positive” reports from inspectors.
Members of the housing and health committee heard that 15 care commission inspections were carried out between March 2009 and June 2010.
Locations inspected were Lewis Place resource centre, Dalweem care homes, Blairgowrie ARC, Gleneagles ARC, Beechgrove House, Rannoch Road day centre and services such as Home Care.
Perth and Kinross Council received 28 gradings of very good (53% of the total) 22 gradings of good (42%) and three of adequate (5%).
A delighted councillor Alasdair Wylie, vice-convener of housing and health, said, “These are very positive results and show that redesigns and improvements put in place over the last 12 months are already achieving better results.
“These inspection reports give us a solid benchmark to measure our aim of achieving continuous improvement in the standards and quality of services we deliver to residents. It also allows us to see where we need to improve, so we can concentrate on those areas of work. We could not have achieved these results without the dedication and hard work of our staff, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them.”
Despite positive signs, Mr Wylie was keen to guard against complacency and revealed further improvements are in the pipeline.
“We are carrying out long-term development that will deliver personalised learning disability services in our communities,” he said. “The changes are based on what people who use services, and their carers, told us they wanted.
“They will, ultimately, give people further opportunities that did not exist in the past: for employment, leisure and living a life in the community, or for specialist care.
“We are working to make our learning disability and care services better and this report shows we are making excellent progress.”
