More to come from Montrose, says manager

More to come from Montrose, says manager

Last weekend Montrose successfully put some proper distance between themselves and the dreaded basement position of League Two that carries with it the threat of falling out of the SPFL.

And this weekend the Gable Endies can make a significant move towards the play-off places.

Manager Paul Hegarty knows that both the promotion and relegation issues are live ones for his team.

“I want to make sure that we don’t take two steps forward and one step back,” the experienced boss said.

“Last week’s win against East Stirlingshire was a very important one but this week’s game against Queen’s Park is even more important. We can’t rest on our laurels.

“I’ve not ruled out anything at the top or the bottom and I think there are plenty of twists and turns left in this league.”

Hegarty added: “I think we’ve been in decent form for five or six weeks and if we can maintain it hopefully that will take us up the league.

“The players have been great but we’ve been demanding even more from them. I definitely think they’ve got that in their locker.”

The Montrose squad will be unchanged for the visit of a “very good” Queen’s Park team.

Ross McCord and Paul Watson are still out but Hegarty had some optimistic news to reveal.

He explained: “Both trained last night for the first time.

“It wasn’t a tough session but it was great to get them back involved with the squad. It’s early days but hopefully there will be no reaction and we can build up their fitness.

“They’ve played a big part behind the scenes by coming to our games home and away and it would be a major boost if we could have them back before the end of the season.”
