After a run of six straight defeats at Central Park, Cowdenbeath could be forgiven for breathing a sigh of relief as they head away from home to take on Hamilton.
Reeling the main Championship pack back in has to be the Blue Brazil’s key aim over the coming weeks and Cowden will fancy their chances of eating into the 10-point gap that exists between themselves and eighth-placed Alloa when they take on Alex Neil’s men.
While the home record has been dismal of late, Jimmy Nicholl’s side are unbeaten in their last three league games on the road and notched creditable wins over league leaders Dundee and Alloa in the process.
So that fact as well as a much-improved showing seven days ago despite a 2-0 defeat against Falkirk should stand them in good stead.
“I am beginning to sound like a broken record but I have to say it was a much better performance, although it was the same result,” Nicholl said.
“But I felt we really competed in the game and our new players all made a contribution.
“James Fowler’s experience will really help the young lads and young Darren Brownlie did well for the most part.
“I will also have Chris Kane from Dunfermline available on Saturday so now there is scope to make changes.
“We have a squad now which gives us options and hopefully we can get a win over Accies to kick-start our recovery.
“What is definite though is we have to learn to win at home again, for losing six on the bounce is simply not good enough.”
Cowden have this week lost the services of midfielder Marc McKenzie, who opted to make a move to East Fife, while it is understood striker Andy Russell has also been the subject of interest from Berwick Rangers boss Colin Cameron, who of course knows him well from his time as Central Park boss.
