SPONSORED: Spend your summer learning tennis at a local club

Wimbledon is back on our screens, which means it’s official – summer is here!

Watching the pros storm their way to the final is great motivation to give tennis a go (they do make it look easy, don’t they?), and now’s the perfect time to do it.

The school holidays offer up lots of free time and opportunity to get the whole family active, with tennis being ideal for all ages and abilities.

Plus, tennis has many benefits for kids and adults alike. You’ll burn calories, improve muscle tone and increase your overall fitness, and don’t forget that exercising is also a great stress-reducer and mood-booster.

So whilst the next generation of Andy Murrays are mastering the basics, why not get out there and play a match or two yourself?

You’ll find lots of local tennis clubs across Courier country which will welcome the whole family, including:

Blairgowrie Tennis Club

Blairgowrie is a friendly, family club that moved to a new site three years ago in the J.J. Coupar Recreation Park, just off the Coupar Angus Rd. It has five all-weather floodlit courts.

Blairgowrie welcomes new members from three years upwards to enjoy the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The club offers a range of activities with coaching for children and adults, regular club social play and a range of competitive opportunities. The club plays in the local Strathmore, Perth and District and Tennis Tayside leagues, for both seniors and juniors.

With three Level 3 accredited coaches, there are regular coaching sessions each week and holiday courses. The coaches are also available for individual lessons, advice on rackets and appropriate coaching or social sessions.

The club has plans to build a clubhouse to replace the portacabin where social events can be held and a room available for hire for parties and fitness classes.

Courts are available for Pay and Play and can be booked online, where you’ll also find further information on the club.

Social tennis is on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 10am 12pm if you want to try it out, and it’s free if it’s your first time.

Adult coaching is on Tuesday evenings, with teams playing in local leagues on Mondays and Thursday evenings if members wish some competitive fun.
