A Crieff man found guilty of leaving a woman scarred for life has been sentenced to 180 hours of unpaid work.
Neil Shaw was found to have injured the woman to her “permanent disfigurement” by slamming a door in her face during a row.
Shaw, 42, had the unpaid work order imposed as a direct alternative to prison when he was found guilty after a trial at Perth Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney found Shaw guilty of making threats towards the woman and another person on April 21.
He also found Shaw guilty of attacking the woman by slamming a door in her face.
Solicitor David Holmes told the court: “He has on a number of occasions expressed regret and remorse for his behaviour.
“He took alcohol and accepts that is a source of difficulty and trouble for him.
“There was no pre-planning, no direct blow, and the complainer herself seemed to view it as not something he would have intended to do.
“He is a hard-working man. He has sought to try and understand his behaviour. He contributes positively to society and has generously given over a number of years.
“His behaviour on that day was not acceptable and he has to address that.”
Mr Holmes said Shaw had narrowly missed being sent to prison in 2013 after he admitted pulling a knife during a bigoted rant against the Travelling community.
He told the court then: “I had a bottle of red wine and had drunk quite a lot of whisky.
“I had never been as drunk as that in my life before.
“I have joined the Baptist Church and given my life to my Lord Jesus Christ and will never drink again.”
